U-Mary Fall Band Concert

Umary Invites you all to our Fall Band Concert in Bismarck!   Early winter freeze got you feelin' down? Need a musical recipe for warming the heart, challenging the mind, and feeding the soul? The University of Mary Concert Band will present their fall concert at 3 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2009, in the acoustically marvelous Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel.

"Our program has been incredibly busy since mid-August", says Dennis Gowen, director of bands and brass studies at the university, and conductor of the University Concert Band. "We're so pleased to be able to share the wealth of talent and energy of our students with the Bismarck-Mandan community with our fall concert." The concert will feature two senior music students making their conducting debuts with the band. "We attract some of the finest future music teachers in the upper Midwest to the University of Mary Music Department each year," Gowen says. "To be able to allow some of these future educators a chance to conduct the band in a live performance is such a thrill for all of us!"

Christine Thelen, of Oakdale, MN, and Shawna Metzger, of Williston, ND, (Metzger was also featured last year in a trumpet solo with the band) will each conduct a composition with the band on Sunday. Also on the program is Gustav Holst's Suite in Eb (in celebration of the work's 100th anniversary), as well as music by Percy Grainger, Victor Herbert and John Philip Sousa. The concert is free and open to the public.  Come join us for an hour of great music featuring outstanding musicians.
