The Origins of the Nutcracker class will be held Mon., November 30, 7-9 p.m.; Wed., December 2, 7-9 p.m. and Wed., December 16, 7-8:30 p.m. at the National Energy Center of Excellence, Room 304 on the BSC Campus. The fee for the class is $29.

What do a Russian choreographer, a Russian composer, a German writer, and a French author have in common? It is their work that is the basis of The Nutcracker, the most widely performed ballet, which failed in its 1892 premiere. Learn the sometimes controversial history of this ballet, see various interpretations of the work, and attend the local production of this holiday tradition by Northern Plains Dance.

Participants may purchase tickets for The Nutcracker at a special rate of $12, payable to the instructor on the first night of class. To sign up for the class or for more information, call Bismarck State College Continuing Education, Training and Innovation at 224-5600.

The ballet performances are as follows:

    December 11, 2009 7:30pm
    December 12, 2009 7:30pm
    December 13, 2009 2:30pm

Box office opens 2 hrs prior to start time. Auditorium doors open 30 minutes prior.
