Bluegrass Concerts and workshops will be held at Bismarck State College January 8 and 9 in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium. The concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. featuring the College of Bluegrass band with Missouri River Boys opening on Friday and Cotton Wood opening on Saturday.
The College of Bluegrass is five students from East Tennessee State University with guest fiddle player Coleman Smith from Scranton, Penn. The musicians hail from Washburn, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Their lead singer, Tyler Williams, is a broadcast major who is blind and has cerebral palsy but doesn't let his disabilities hold him back. He plays guitar and keyboards and his rich country/bluegrass voice is like no other.
Bluegrass workshops will be held Saturday, January 9 from 1-4 p.m. for fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass and banjo. Classes include Harmony, Song Writing, and Learn a Bluegrass Song. No pre-registration is required and the fee for the workshops is $5.
Tickets for either the Friday or Saturday concerts are available at BSC, Eckroth Music, String Bean, Jacobsen Music and Night Life Music in Bismarck, M&H Gas in Mandan, Chase Drug and Java Rose in Washburn, the Corner Express in Center and at the door if available. Concert tickets are $15. Concert plus workshop tickets are $20. Tickets are nonrefundable. For more information, call Jill Wiese at 701-315-0017. In case of inclement weather, go to www.cottonwoodbluegrass.com for concert changes.

I have moved to Bismarck from the west coast where bluegrass is very prominent. This is the first good music I have seen come anywhere close to the area. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing it.... Expand
