    As an award-winning filmmaker and founder of Journey Films, Martin Doblmeier has traveled on location to more than 40 countries to profile numerous religious leaders, communities, heads of state and Nobel Laureates. Doblmeier will be the keynote speaker at University of Mary's upcoming Prayer Day 2010. The annual two-day event in begins Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Arno Gustin Hall with the screening of Doblmeier's latest film, "The Power of Forgiveness." This documentary won the Sun Valley Film Festival Best Film Award, the Silver Screen Award from the International Film and Video Festival, the Wilbur Award and the Christopher Award.  Doblmeier will also give the Prayer Day keynote address on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at 11 a.m.

    Admission is $10, which includes lunch. University of Mary students and faculty are admitted free.  Registration for Thursday's activities is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the McDowell Activity Center or can be done online at  https://forms.umary.edu/UM/StudentServices/PrayerDayRegistration.     

    A second screening of the film will take place on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in Arno Gustin Hall. Workshops are at 1 p.m. followed by a Eucharistic liturgy with Bishop Paul Zipfel in the McDowell Activity Center.

    The Power of Forgiveness includes feature stories on the Amish, the 9/11 tragedy and peace-building in Northern Ireland, along with interviews with renowned Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, best-selling authors Thomas Moore and Marianne Williamson and others. This film, like other Doblmeier productions, examines how belief can lead individuals to extraordinary actions, how spirituality creates and sustains communities and how faith is lived out in the most challenging times. Doblemeier has eight other films to his credit, including, the critically acclaimed Bonhoeffer, a documentary released in 2003 about a famed pastor and Nazi resister.
