Mezzo-soprano Helen Tintes-Schuermann, co-founder and director of the International Spanish Music Center, will perform a program of Spanish and Latin American Music on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Clairmont Center for Performing Arts at the University of Mary. The concert is free and open to the public.
According to Katherine Henjum, Director of Vocal Studies at the University of Mary, Tintes-Schuermann is a versatile artist performing throughout the USA and Europe in operatic roles and as a concert soloist and recitalist.
“This concert is part of our fifth annual ‘Conversations with Distinguished Artists Series,’ and we are so fortunate to have Helen Tintes-Schuermann share her depth of knowledge and expertise in the Spanish repertoire with us. It provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to hear a language and style of repertoire they do not typically hear.”
Tintes-Schuermann has recently released a cd entitled “Para Entonces,” featuring songs by Spanish and American composers.
Tintes-Schuermann received the Doctor of Music degree from Northwestern University and degrees from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and the Escuela de Canto in Madrid, Spain.
Flutist Amy Morris and Pianist Ana Maria Otamendi are also featured on the program.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information please contact the U-Mary Music Department at 701-355-8301 or email music@umary.edu.
