“Around the World in 80 Minutes” is the title of the BSC Wind Ensemble Spring Concert. This semester-culminating event will feature music from around the world. The concert will begin with a piece that features the Russian composer Anatoly Liadov. “Liadov Fanfare” was written by Brian Beck and uses two of Liadov’s familiar melodies. A stop in Italy will feature the famous tenor aria by Puccini from Turandot, “Nessun Dorma (No One Sleeps).” Adjunct vocal instructor, Clyde Bauman, will be vocal soloist for this piece. The music of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg will be featured in the band’s presentation of an arrangement by associate professor of music, Dr. John Darling, titled “Peer Gynt Montage.” Argentinean composer Alberto Ginastera’s “Danza Final” from his ballet Estancia will add a Latin American tone to the concert. Student composed “Hall of Anubis” will feature music of an Egyptian flavor. This original piece was a composition project that will feature the composer, Dustin Braaten, on guitar. Music of a Spanish influence will be highlighted in Robert Sheldon’s “Iberian Escapades.” Adjunct string instructor, Dr. Eric Lawson, will be the featured violin soloist in a performance of John Williams’ haunting theme from “Schindler’s List.” No world tour would be complete without a stop in North America with Richard Saucedo’s energetic “American Barndance.” The BSC Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. John Darling. This event is offered free of charge on Monday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium.
