Minot chamber group performs at BSC. Bismarck State College ArtsQuest hosts The Orenunn Trio Friday, April 16, for an evening of classical and contemporary music arranged for trumpet, strings and piano. The concert by the Minot-based ensemble begins at 7:30 p.m. in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium and is presented at no charge during ArtsQuest, BSC’s month-long celebration of the arts. Producing the distinctive instrumentation sound are Mark Boren, trumpet, Julianne Boren, cello, and pianist “Kate” Kyungmi Lee. Dedicated to performance, education and promotion of living composers, the ensemble has performed in South Korea and in Thailand for two International Trumpet Guild conferences and across the Midwest. Mark Boren is an instructor and coordinator of brass studies at Minot State University and co-principal trumpet of the Minot Symphony Orchestra. He has played with several brass quintets in Nebraska and Kansas and symphonies in Topeka, Wichita, Kansas City, and St. Joseph, and was featured soloist with the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra. Boren is author of the book, “Breathing for Performance” and a founding member of The Orenunn Trio. Julianne Boren maintains a freelance performance career as a cello soloist and ensemble and orchestra musician. Before moving to Minot, she held positions in the Topeka, Wichita and St. Joseph symphonies and Lawrence Chamber Orchestra. Boren, a trio co-founder, maintained a large private studio in Kansas City and Lawrence and taught at Baker University. She is married to Mark Boren and they both serve on the faculty of the International Music Camp at the International Peace Gardens. Lee has performed as a piano soloist and chamber musician, making her international debut as a collaborative pianist at the International Trumpet Guild conference in Thailand with The Orenunn Trio in 2005. She is pursuing a doctorate in music at the University of Kansas.
