    Kent Meyers is Writer-in-Residence at Black Hills State University and the author of five books: the novels The River Warren, The Work Of Wolves, and Twisted Tree; a collection of short stories, Light In the Crossing; and a collection of essays, The Witness Of Combines. Meyers lives in Spearfish, South Dakota, and teaches Creative Writing and Literature of the American West at Black Hills State University. The River Warren was a finalist in Barnes and Noble’s New Voices Awards and was a New York Times Notable Paperback. Light in the Crossing was a New York Times Notable Book. The Witness of Combines won a Minnesota Book Award, a Friends of American Writers Award, and was a PEN/West finalist. The Work of Wolves won a Mountains and Plains Booksellers Association Award, an Alex Award from the American Library Association, and a Minnesota Book Award. It was named to The Christian Science Monitor’s list of the best books of 2004, was chosen by the South Dakota Center For the Book as “One Book, South Dakota,” and by the city of Redmond, WA for their “One City, One Book” program. Twisted Tree was named to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s list of best books of 2009, won the Society of Midland Authors Award for adult fiction, and was a finalist in the High Plains Book Awards. Meyers has published stories and essays in many literary journals, including The Georgia Review, The Southern Review, The New England Review and The Sonora Review. He has won fiction awards from Crazyhorse, The Southern Humanities Review, The Black Warrior Review, and The Minnesota Monthly. In 1998 he won a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. His work has been anthologized in The Best of the West series, and in Best American Mystery Stories. Meyers will be reading from his work Tuesday, October 12th, at 7 pm in Beck Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Reception with book signing follows.
