Gateway to Science Hosts Annual WIDGET Contest
BISMARCK- Gateway to Science is again partnering with the ND Society of Professional Engineers, Chapter 3, to sponsor the Widget (Wild Invention, Design, and Gadgetry Engineer Team) Contest to commemorate National Engineers Week in February 2011. The competition will be on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 5:30 p.m. at the Bismarck Public Schools Career Academy, with prizes up to $200 to be awarded.
The Contest is for students in grades 9-12. This year contest goal? To design and build a machine to unroll 50 centimeters of toilet paper. At the competition, each team will be given all new materials to recreate their WIDGETS in one hour. Professional engineers will serve as the judges.
A WIDGET machine combines science, engineering, and creativity with hints of absurdity and silliness. The public is invited to watch the competition and cheer on their favorite teams.
