Learn the basics of pine needle basket weaving. Pine needle basketry uses a technique of coiled dried pine needles and various materials sewing the coils together. Students will complete at least one small basket made of long leaf pine needles and sewn with waxed linen thread. They will have mastered the basic stitch and skills to make additional baskets on their own. Students should bring a washcloth or small hand towel and small pliers to the first class. The instructor will have a materials kit at the first class. Eileen McEnroe of Bismarck has been making pine needle baskets for 4 years.
