Bismarck State College presents Festival of Short Plays Wednesday-Thursday, May 4-5, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Sidney J. Lee Auditorium. The festival features five plays by award winning playwright, Matthew Fotis, the regional winner of the John Cauble Playwriting Award at the American College Theatre Festival in Ames, Iowa. Fotis is a national finalist for two of his short plays and these plays will be premiered at the BSC festival.
The plays are:
“Insomniacs in Heat”
An unusually warm October evening brings one couple to the edge, and their lives might never be the same. A comedy about the choices we make...and the heat that forces us to make them.
“58 & 59”
Two pages in a library book, stuck together for eternity, waiting to be opened. One thinks he’ll never be free; one thinks it was meant to be. A love story about hope and the power of knowledge.
“Oedipus: The Prequel”
Before there was Sophocles play there was a new king and an old queen destined to find love. A play about that and some other stuff.
“Nights on the Couch”
One man’s journey from child to parent, told through five nights spent on the couch. A childhood sleepover and a ruined pair of pajamas; a night of young love; an awkward college road trip; and a pair of very different nights with the love of his life. An examination of the nights on the couch that help shape the men we become.
“The Zebra Baby”
Greg’s life is finally starting to come together. He and his new wife have just moved into their first house, but when talk of a baby arises it turns out that the most sane person in Greg’s life might just be a kid who likes sandwiches. A surreal comedy about love, life and plungers.
