The University of Mary is pleased to welcome former North Dakota first lady Nancy Jones Schafer to the Christian Leadership Center. While Nancy enjoys traveling the country with her husband and former Governor Ed Schafer, her passion lies in living a life of service — as an inspirational speaker; being involved in community at the local and state level; sitting on corporate boards of directors; mentoring some of the Lost Boys from Sudan who have settled in Fargo-Moorhead; educating parents and children about Internet safety; and, through the Police Officers Jail Chaplain’s Association (POJCA), helping lead inmates to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, so they are better able to build productive lives when they are released back into society.
These and many other living and spiritual encounters are the foundation of her presentation entitled “Shaping Faith Through Leadership” Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at 7 p.m. in Butler Hall of the Gary Tharaldson School of Business on the University of Mary campus. The program, which is free and open to the public, should last until approximately 8 p.m. It will include praise and worship music from a local group called United Heart of Worship led by Bob Peske, followed by a reception in the foyer of Butler Hall.
The University of Mary’s Christian Leadership Center is sponsoring the event.
“We are thrilled to have such a dynamic speaker as Nancy Schafer come and speak to the people of Western North Dakota,” commented Leroy Huizenga, director of the Christian Leadership Center at the University of Mary. “Nancy’s experiences in both public and private arenas have given her a wealth of insight into thriving as a Christian leader — practical wisdom she's kind enough to come share with us. Her talk kicks off the programming year for the university's Christian Leadership Center, which endeavors to foster ecumenical dialogue and develop leadership abilities in young people, working professionals, and religious leaders."
Regarded as one of the most approachable families to ever live in the Governor’s Residence, Nancy considers it a blessing and a joy that she and Ed live a life that includes interacting with the public.
