Beginning Sumi-E Painting with Char McLaughlin

“Beginning ‘SUMI-E’ Painting. Sumi-e is the ancient art of oriental brush painting. This class will include beginning techniques in equipment, loading, holding and basic strokes of the brushes. We will include variations on the “First Four Gentlemen”: Orchid, Bamboo, Plum Blossom and Choi. Student participants will take home a ready to hang, 8” x 10” framed painting from their work in this class. Contact BAGA for Supply List.

About Char: Char McLaughlin winner of the 2011 Citation Award, holds B.A. in Art Education from University of Washington in Seattle. Char paints in watercolors, pastels and Sumi Ink drawings, which she says “feeds my soul”. She has won awards for her paintings, her work has been shown at BAGA and other galleries and venues, and she is now turning many of her paintings into note cards.
