The University of Mary, America's Leadership University in Bismarck, ND, will present Christmas at Mary, its annual musical celebration of Christmas on Dec. 5, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 6, at 1:30 p.m. in Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel in the Benedictine Center. All performances are open to the public, with no charge for admission.

The program includes traditional Christmas music and some contemporary favorites such as "Go Tell It on the Mountain." The Gabrieli brass, an annual tradition at the University of Mary, will perform a 17th Century work for antiphonal brass, with musicians in three locations around the chapel.

"The concert features a wonderful variety of seasonal music, from the beauty and simplicity of Gregorian chant to contemporary favorites such as Amy Grant's Breath of Heaven," says choir director Dr. Tom Porter. "The program flows from instrumental works to choral pieces, showcasing the talent of our students. It is a tribute to their hard work, being able to shift musical styles and ensembles while capturing the character of music written over twelve centuries. The beauty of the music is enhanced by the design and acoustics of Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel, creating a truly spectacular effect."

The concert features the U-Mary Concert Choir, and Vocal Jazz under the direction of Dr. Porter, the Wind Ensemble and Gabrieli Brass under the direction of Dennis Gowen, and a solo by University of Mary faculty Katherine Henjum, soprano, and Jan Candee, organ. Prelude music will begin thirty minutes prior to each concert. An organ solo and a number of student ensembles, including brass and woodwind, are directed by Gowen, Candee, Dr. Michelle Kiec and Dr. David Lambert.
