    The University of Mary Department of Music is pleased to welcome pianist Janet Ahlquist to the campus. Ahlquist will perform a lecture-recital entitled Contrasts: Gershwin in America (1898-1937); Grieg in Norway (1843-1907) on Friday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m., in U-Mary's Heskett Hall in the Clairmont Center for Performing Arts. Ahlquist has performed in numerous solo and chamber music recitals in such venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Recital Hall, Library of Congress, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Rockefeller Mansion, and the French Embassy. Internationally, she has performed in Russia, Norway, France, and Portugal. She has been recognized with a top prize at the French Piano Institute's Festival International in Paris, Wyoming Governor's Art Award, and inclusion in Who's Who of American Women.

    Her CD recordings, The Soul of Russia, Portuguese Classics, and A live Recital on the Main Line, have received critical acclaim. Educated at Juilliard and the Eastman School of Music, she was awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate and the Artist Diploma from the Longy School. Ahlquist is a music adjunct (affiliate) Faculty member at Immaculata University, performs as a soloist, is a founding member of Trio International, and frequently joins musicians of the Bryn Mawr Chamber Music Society. Ahlquist will also perform as soloist in Grieg's 'Piano Concerto in A Major, op. 16' with the Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m., in Trinity Lutheran Church (Bismarck).
