The Open Box (The Group That Opened the Box)

In the heart of North Dakota, a group of courageous teens are challenging the public silence about...almost everything.

The Group That Opened the Box (a project of The Open Box) brings theater arts together with social change -- offering outrageous humor, rebellious spirit, and even some true confessions.

Told through compelling readers' theater, the Group's shows invite you into the inner lives of the remarkable young people who create them.

“The Group That Opened the Box inspires me to go beyond my safe zone, and talk about some things that are important to me, yet usually just get shoved under the carpet,” says Alexis Hellman, a founding member of the Group.

Under the direction of Karen Van Fossan (writer) and Kathy Blohm (psychologist), the Group is designed to provide a nourishing place for creativity to thrive and voices to be found. “I have gained a safe haven, a soft place to land when the word is less than comforting,” says Rachel Patrie, also a founding member of the Group.

Together, the Group plans to change the world – through honest humor, creative community, and the earnest power of the spoken word.
