Tom Porter
Composer - Director - Musician - Singer
About the artist:
I am a native of North Dakota whose music reflects the spiritual geography of the prairie. Although I have composed music for a variety of genres, I now write primarily for choirs and church music. I enjoy the process of working with individuals and organizations on commissioned works. Past commissions include San Francisco Girls Chorus, Grand Forks Master Chorale, Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, National Association of Pastoral Musicians, Bismarck Mandan Civic Chorus, Diocese of Bismarck, and a number of individuals, schools and churches. I am currently a composer in residence for two churches in Saint Cloud, MN, through the Faith Partners program of the American Composers Forum, as well as writing a number of private commissions. My music is published by GIA Publications, Alliance Music Publications, and Lorenz (Heritage Music Press, Roger Dean, Laurel Press). I direct honor choirs and festival choirs and serve as a clinician and adjudicator for high school and middle school festivals. I am currently a professor of music at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. In addition I conduct the Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus and the Cathedral Children's Choir.
