Artist Detail
Kris Kitko
Musician - Singer
About the artist:
Bio: "Kris Kitko displays several musical superpowers" --Chicago Tribune
"Remember Kitko as a name that will go far" --Guitar Noise
"Kris Kitko is one of the brightest lights in folk music today. Creative, prolific, in demand, and an absolute master of songcraft and performance, Kris is gaining a growing reputation as a storyteller and humorist--referred to as a strangely satisfiying mix of Garrison Keillor and a quirky-yet-endearing Rosie the Riveter--with a guitar.
The Chicago Tribune claims that folksinger/humorist Kris Kitko can light up the room with her "disarming sense of humor, considerable talent, and musical superpowers." Her musical skits & parodies, like On Becoming a Woman and Other Lies, have brought down the house across the country. Kitko delights her audiences with a reminder that we've all got issues with her hysterical sing-along Everybody's Family Is Messed Up (Including Yours and Especially Mine).
Kris Kitko has shared the stage with artists as diverse as Ferron, Angie Stevens, Lindsay Mac, and Chuck Suchy. She has been featured on Prairie Public Radio, Minnesota Public Radio, Laney Goodmans' "Women in Music," Windy City Radio, many live radio & TV appearances and on podcasts around the globe. Kris has been called a "powerhouse" and a "folkie with a band up her sleeve." It's just Kris on stage, but her aggressive strumming, hypnotic fingerpicking, and fresh lyrics have audiences on their feet for one song and wiping their eyes on the next. Kris is a consummate performer who reads the crowd like a psychic, always delivering what the moment calls for: a hilarious social commentary, a fun foot-stomper, or a wistful look back on our lives.
Kris grew up in Connecticut basking in the folk glow generated by Joan Baez and others who were bringing this old music into the new mainstream. After moving to North Dakota, Kris carried her guitar and notebook to the prairie and honed her songwriting skills under the endless Dakota sky. Kris continues to live by the Badlands and perform nationally. Kris Kitko has most recently released two CDs: 2008's critically-acclaimed I am not wal-mart and 2009's devastatingly hysterical Krissy Made A Funny. Kris is our Troubadour for Troubled Times; just when you think the world is spinning out of control, Kris will spin it a new way and give you a smile when you least expect it.
