I am a Media Arts student at United Tribes and I have had the privilege of listening to Gary Farmer speak and having him elaborate more of his artistic philosophy in an interview. He had an honest, heartfelt message about his work, which is clearly evident from his long career in Native and mainstream cinema. He had a lot to say to motivate and inspire younger generations of people and how a lot still needs to be done. I personally felt inspired and determined to do more for my community and the arts. He doesn't relay just "Native" stories, but stories that relate to all of us as human beings. His blues band Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers weren't too bad either. :) Collapse

I have moved to Bismarck from the west coast where bluegrass is very prominent. This is the first good music I have seen come anywhere close to the area. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing it.... Expand

I have to say up front that this is my first time seeing Hamlet performed, so I have no other productions to compare it to. That being said, I was very impressed with this performance. With only one... Expand
I have to say up front that this is my first time seeing Hamlet performed, so I have no other productions to compare it to. That being said, I was very impressed with this performance. With only one professional actor, Greg Myhre, who was phenomenal as Hamlet, the rest of the cast was made up with students and faculty. This was truly a joy to watch, hats off to the cast and director. Outstanding performances by the actors portraying Laertes and Horatio. Collapse

If this upcoming concert is anything like the Sept. performance, audiences will love it. The balance between favorites that we could hum to (internally) and a more contemporary unknown was just right. What all the music shared was the kind of excellence that, truly, brought listeners around me to tears. You will remember, again and again, the swell of feelings that conductor Everett pulls from the musicians and sends, special delivery, to your seat in the audience. I don't have a whole lot of extra activity dollars. But, if this continues, I will buy season tickets next year. Bravo, Bismarck-Mandan Symphony! p.s. Can you have a singing group perform with you once every season? It was an unexpected and pretty cool surprise. Collapse
